Who Am I? Why do I want your support?
And why am I watching Sing Street again?
My daughter Cecilia told me I’d like Sing Street.
I thought she must be joking. A sentimental movie about a bunch of Irish kids who want to start a band.
I’m watching it for the third time now. It’s a perfect movie. It completely captures a young man’s obsession with getting better at his art, dealing with his inspiration (Lucy Boynton), and taking the incredible plunge into the world of risk that is the artistic life.
That’s me.
For my entire life I’ve felt compelled to write fiction, articles, songs, orchestral works, chamber music, play jazz, learn a language, understand math. I can’t stop doing ALL of these things, no matter how hard I try.
There’s something at the bottom of all of them that feeds me, makes me feel like a real human. Maybe it’s my neuroatypicality. Whatever the case, I’ve learned it’s not enough to create.
I have to share. I have to reach people, find my audience for the books. And that means take a bigger step.
So why this group?
I’ve created this group to find the people who want to see more of these books, who want there to be more Adam Cole songs, who want to tell me and each other what they like, how they are inspired, and how they can support one another.
You can subscribe as a paid member so that I can keep doing what I do, and get better at it. Not ready to support the work financially? You can still subscribe as a free reader and tell people what you think.
The main character in Sing Street found his band. Then he found his audience. Then he found love.
Isn’t that what we all want?
